Surely, two of the most satisfying experiences in life must be those of being a grandchild or a grandparent.
~Donald A. Norberg
When Marian McQuade sent the draft of a bill to Congress, asking for the institution of National Grandparents Day, she had a distinct vision as to what the purpose of the day should be. The West Virginia mother of 15 (and grandmother to many more) wanted a time set aside to honor traditions and family history as communicated by the older generations. She also felt it was an effective way to encourage families to gather often to share and learn from each other. In 1978, Congress agreed, and the first Sunday after Labor Day was designated. This year, Grandparents Day falls on September 10. If you are looking for beautiful flowers and plants to honor these special people, look no further than Ron & Alicia Robinson Florist. National Friendship Day was established by Congress in 1935, and it was determined that the new holiday would fall on the first Sunday in August. The day set aside to celebrate one of life's most important relationships didn't catch on in the U.S. as well as it did around the world. Still, millions of people do take this annual opportunity to give accolades to their best friends.
Did You Know? August 6 is also National Sisters Day, and since our best friends and our sisters can be the same person, that seems only appropriate! Read More about Best Friends & Sisters Have Their Day »

Of all the seasonal flowers, the summer hydrangea may be one of the least appreciated. Not because its beautiful colors and lush, generous flowers are not recognized - but because they have largely been relegated to playing a supporting role in many floral arrangements. Still, this popular summer flower, which blooms between late spring and early fall, is deserving of our attention and our July spotlight! This month, how about bringing home a huge bouquet of hydrangea? Their ethereal ambiance and refreshing palettes make them the perfect choice for mid-summer floral arrangements. For over 240 years, July 4th has been a day set apart to celebrate the unique freedoms that we have come to appreciate in the United States. But its beginnings were a little fuzzy - from John Adams publicly declaring that July 2nd was Independence Day, to the majority of the founding fathers not signing the Declaration of Independence until August 2nd. Still, the date written on the original document prevailed, and a nation was born.
Did You Know? John Hancock was one of only two members of Congress who signed on July 4th - which explains his favored position on the document. Read More about Red, White & Blue Flowers for Independence Day »

Did You Know? Father's Day is one of our country's newer holidays, having been instituted in 1966 by Lyndon Johnson. They hover as a cloud of witnesses above this Nation. - Henry Ward Beecher
Throughout the last 150 years - since the end of the Civil War - Memorial Day has been celebrated as a way to honor those who lost their lives in war. First unofficially observed in 1866 as 'Decoration Day', this was a day set aside to decorate the graves of Civil War fallen soldiers. Soon after World War I, it was suggested that the name be changed to Memorial Day, and to include the men and women lost during any military initiative or battle. In 1971, Congress officially placed Memorial Day on the calendar, and the heart behind it is still the same to this day. If you are looking for Memorial Day floral arrangements to offer respect to friends and loved ones, you can trust the experts at Ron & Alicia Robinson Florist to deliver.
